Beginner 5k Run (3-Day)

Author Fred Chevry

Program Overview:

Welcome to the 6-Week Beginner 5k Run Training Plan, designed for our Virtual Personal Training (VPT) community! Whether you're new to running or are getting back into it, this 3-day-a-week program is the perfect starting point to meet your 5k goal.

What You Can Expect:

The 5k journey starts now with an accessible but challenging program. Three days a week, you'll embark on runs that begin with a brisk 5-minute walk to get you moving. From there, you'll shift into your running phase, the distance and intensity of which will gradually increase over six weeks. The aim isn't to break speed records but to build consistent habits and stamina.

Progression:

Weeks 1-3: Lay the foundation by running three times a week. We're focusing on consistency and gradually increasing your running time.

Weeks 4-6: You're now in the groove and may even find that running has become a part of your weekly routine. Continue to follow the plan, and you'll be set for your first 5k run at the end of the sixth week.

Key Highlights:

  • No treadmill? No problem! Run outdoors or on a treadmill.
  • Each session begins with a 5-minute brisk walk.
  • Flexible schedule allows for additional rest days.
  • Seamlessly integrated into your VPT calendar.
  • Gradual ramp-up to ensure you're 5k-ready.
